My childhood dreams come true

New Zealand based Weta Workshop created a real life mermaid tail for a woman who lost her legs below the knee due to a childhood medical condition. The tail is fully functional and allows her to swim underwater. How crazy is that! I would have killed for this when I was 6. Full article here.

Project!

Here's my new cruiser. I got it a couple of months ago cause it was super cheap and so perfect. I mean, it's got a stand on it! I'm in love! I'm a little worried about the coaster brakes, since when I coast, I tend to pedal backwards. But hopefully I can harken back to the days of my first Huffy and all will be well. The problem is the color. I am not digging the magenta/fuschiaish color. Fortunately, Curtis' brother-in-law has so graciously offered to let us paint it in his body shop. Problem solved! New problem. What color?! My favorite color is red. Is that played out or classic? Any ideas?

Warm weather, why won't you come?!?

Another reason to go green

Moving on up

This week has been crazy busy and it's just getting crazier. I still have to finish a design for my friends' MS Walk team. Me and Curtis' crew have dance practice tonight for a performance on Sat. I have three books I'm designing at work. And I'm officially allowed to start moving my stuff to Ft. Collins on Sunday. Yay! I am so excited to get this started. I haven't lived without roommates for nearly three years and it's going to be exciting and scary all at the same time. It's going to be nice to have my own place, but I am realizing more and more how much fun I have with my roomies. Having Emily means there is always something going on. I worry that I am just going to end up sitting on the couch watching old House reruns, wondering what she's doing. Then I remember that she will probably be watching the same thing and I can just call her and we can watch it together!
Through cleaning and packing everything, I've come to find that I don't really have that much useful stuff. I'm sure my mom gave my some dishes when I moved out of my parents' place, I just don't seem to know where they are. Maybe under all my old Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles action figures.
I am so excited to finally live in the same city (much less state) as Curtis. Now I'm going to be just a 20 minute bike ride away. No more hour long commutes over boring boring stretches of highway. Now, if he gets sick of me, it's not so far for me to go home. :)
I'm moving to an amazing house, right by the Foothills. It's super cute and I am bound and determined to have it decorated cute. Enter Elaine and Emily. Girls, I'm gonna need your help something fierce! To keep all my loved ones in the loop, I'm gonna post some pictures of the before and after and in betweens of the moving/decorating process. We'll see how this goes.

Bat Bike

NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA, BAT BIKE!!!

Super Fun!

The UK Watchmen site as a sweet Minutemen arcade game you can play. These are the video games I can get behind. You kick, you punch, you jump, and you walk...and that's about it. Simple enough to entertain me, I guess. I miss these simpler times so much. Now I can't play Halo without throwing up in my mouth a little. Does anyone remember the first Double Dragon video game? Many a sleepover of my youth was spent A-buttoning some pixelated fools. And I used to play the Simpson's arcade game at Time Out with my sister for hours! Ooo, Ooo, and there was the X-Men one where everyone was in their old school costumes!!! I miss being 10.

Love it.

Lance's New Bike

Lance Armstrong is participating in the Tour de California right now and on Monday his super amazing, only for him, one of a kind time trial bike was stolen. It was eventually recovered but he had another tt bike made with a little something special added.

I can't wait to get back on my bike!!!

New Mighty Muggs!

Aren't these awesome?! The makers of Mighty Muggs continue to amaze me with the variety of things they can do with the same basic figure. Wizard Universe has a preview of the Marvel's fall toy line on the website now. Click here for more pics and toys.

Call of Cthulhu

Bob Basset makes the most amazing masks I have ever seen. I've been obsessing over Cthulhu since my friend Jack drew this awesomeness. Basset also has some incredible steam punk masks that I desperately want to save up and buy on Ebay. Check out his stuff here and more pics of his Cthulhu mask here.

The Elusive Jackalope

Ever since Curtis gave me one on one of our first dates, I have been extremely fond of jackalopes. My jackalope is named Guillermo and he sits by my computer and stares at me all day long. I like to paint pictures of them and my buddy Jason is on the look out for them in Douglas. I found some awesome pictures on Flickr that made me smile.

Art in the Big City

Friday was all sorts of fun. Me and Curtis went to the Denver Art Museum and got our culture on. We wandered around for hours and by the end of it I was glad I wore comfy shoes instead of trying to look cute. Though I did notice my trusty Cons had formed a tear on the side through which I could see my mismatched socks. Somewhere, my mother is cringing at the thought of it. But I digress. Here are some of my favorite exhibits we saw.

"Linda" by John DeAndrea
This was so lifelike it was scary. I kept expecting her to get up and try to eat my brains.

"Gilbert and George" by Gilbert Prousch and George Passmore
Loved the color and mood of this one. It kinda reminds me of old Italian Giallo movies.

"Fox Games" by Sandy Skoglund
I just love how simple the colors are. And all the foxes were doing completely different things.

"Passing/Posing (Marriage of the Virgin)" by Kehinde Wiley
I loooooove this artist! I saw some of his work in Austin and have been a fan ever since. He brings people out from the street and has them pose in the style of other famous paintings. His realism is amazing.I felt like I could reach and and grab that dude's cell phone.
Other highlights from the day... On the way to Denver, the radio played almost every cheesy song I adore. I ate a ton of nachos and drank awesome beer. I got to pop virtual bubbles with my feet. The night ended with a viewing of Jason X AKA Jason in Space. All in all, a pretty spectacular day.

Happy Early Valentine's Day

Cartoon via Emily Flake.
Tomorrow me and Curtis are playing hooky from work and having an early Valentine's Day/Denver Day. We are going to be going to the art museum which I haven't been to since they remodeled. I am beyond pumped since this is our first V-Day together. We have been dating for almost two years (yeah, yeah, the time line is sketchy) and I honestly can't imagine my life without him. So here's some random things that make him the best boyfriend EVER.

He makes me the coolest post-it drawings you have ever seen. They cover my desk and computer at work and make me smile all day.

He his favorite X-Man is Gambit and mine is Rogue. Totally romantic in a totally goober way.

He once told me my outfit looked like a bag of Skittles exploded.

He's just as goofy as I am!

Only reason to go to Oklahoma

Holy cow and be still my heart. The picture above is not from my bedroom, though Emily might think otherwise. This gloriousness is part of an exibit at the Toy & Action Figure Museum in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma. The museum contains over 6,ooo figures with displays dedicated to Star Wars, He-Man, GI Joes, and Batman, to name a few. And to top it off, there's the Super Room, where you can try on the costumes of your favorite caped (or uncaped) crusaders. I wonder if I could convince my peeps to go on a little road trip with me this summer to check it out. Plus we could stop by here too.

I guess this place is surrounded by a gun store and gas stations.

I only hope my offspring will be as cool as this kiddo.

Top Ten Lessons From Max Brooks

As to be expected, one of my favorite books is "The Zombie Survival Guide". Max Brooks is a genius and is the only reason I am going to be a productive human being. I am the type of person who isn't really grounded in reality, so the prospect of a zombie invasion freaks me out to no end and keeps me up at night. I sit in my cubicle at work and imagine if I could use my stapler to destroy a brain. I love my new apartment, but worry about all the windows I'm going to have to board up. I love my boyfriend more than anything in the world, but I wouldn't hesitate to put one between his eyes the moment he joins the ranks of the undead. Imagine my relief when I found this book! Go out and buy it here. You will be better for it. Here are the top 10 lessons for surviving a zombie attack. Thank you so much, Mr. Brooks...

1. Organize before they rise.
Shiiiiii, you gots ta be prepared sucka.

2. They feel no fear, why should you?
They are slow anyway. And walk stupid.

3. Use your head: cut off theirs.
Remove the head! How many times do I have to tell you!

4. Blades don't need reloading.
I'm not talking about your steak knifes or anything, but sharpen up that samurai sword!

5. Ideal protection = tight clothes, short hair.
Zombies can't clamp onto your skinny jeans.

6. Get up the staircase, then destroy it.
Zombies can't climb.

7. Get out of the car, get onto a bike.
Unlimited MPG, baby! Bikes are portable and easier to maneuver than cars. Plus you can put your swords in your cruiser basket.

8. Keep moving, keep low, keep quiet, keep alert.
Don't stop, get down, shut up, and pay attention!

9. No place is safe, only safer.
Don't let your guard down, sucka!

10. The zombie may be gone, but the threat lives on.
There's always more around the bend!

They're coming for you, Barbara...

I finally did it. I threatened Curtis with it for a couple weeks and I decided to make good on it. So, I'm sitting at home watching trashy VH1 reality show (man, that Ray J seems like he is pretty serious about finding love), getting kinda tipsy (Brooke, you are so right, Levity is sooo good!), and wondering why anyone would want to read what I write. They probably don't, but there will be lots of pictures to distract them. Now, if she wants, my mom can keep tabs on me when she moves to Texas. Now I can vent on here instead of through the million emails I send to Curtis everyday. And most importantly, I can help you, the reader, prepare of the impending zombie apocalypse. If the signs in Austin are any indication, they are coming and we better get prepared. Thanks for reading, now I gotta go to bed.

PS. Smooth Away does not work. It's freaking sandpaper. You can't shave with sandpaper.
